Find your way to a healthier diet
A new client asked me the other day,
“What diet is best for our health?”
“I am so confused!”
“I don’t know where to start” He said.
“Is it Vegan, Pescatarian or Flexitarian? Or what!??!”
Believe me its a tough one for everyone. Diet and nutrition can get hugely complicated. There are so many differing opinions. Some people believe too much fruit is bad for you, some say you must have meat for the vitamins and minerals it provides. Some are adamant that vegan is the only way.
So to add more confusion to the question. We also have to consider the damage to the environment. Water and air pollution, loss of wildlife, and of natural habitats all result from food production.
What sort of diet do you follow? Have you found it easy to decide?
My training to become a Certified Health & Wellness coach included the study of around 100 dietary theories and this helped me decide what felt best for me.
When considering diet I am a firm believer in the saying that “Everything we eat is either feeding disease in our body or fighting it.
If you contemplate this, it can start you thinking… What am I eating and what is it doing to my body?
Don’t get me wrong I never feel deprived with my diet at all, but I do consider with some care what I put into my body.
It’s proven that a diet rich in whole foods, fruit and vegetables is the best for our overall health. It’s low in fat, full of all the vitamins we need and will give our bodies the correct fuel to cope with everything life throws at us.
Choosing the best diet for you is an individual choice and must suit your lifestyle. My suggestion to all of my clients who want to be healthier is to make as many healthy choices as often as possible whilst still enjoying all that life has to offer.
Changing to a healthier diet doesn’t have to be an all or nothing proposition. You don’t have to be perfect, you don’t have to completely eliminate foods you enjoy, and you don’t have to change everything all at once. A change in diet should be easy to establish and easy to live with.
A great approach is to make a few small changes at a time. Keep you goals modest. Never feel deprived as this will lead to feeling unhappy and perhaps binging on unhealthy foods.
Say for example you have crisps every lunchtime? How about changing that to 3 times a week and instead having some lovely fruit? As you change slowly you will notice that actually your new choices feel good and then taking more little steps towards healthier food becomes easier.
