How to improve your health?
As a Health & Wellness coach people often ask me what’s the best way to improve my health. When faced with someone in this situation it can be really hard to know the answer. We are all individuals and our health is so bespoke. It’s impossible to offer a one size fits all solution.
Our overall health is multifaceted and can be affected by so many scenarios, our biology, our environment, our genetics and our lifestyle.
I loved the saying during my study that our DNA hands us our health but this doesn’t mean we have to follow this path. We can improve our health outcome.
So back to the original question. How can I improve my health?
Well this is so intricate and detailed it’s takes some time to consider for each person. A health improvement could be walking every day or eating less meat and that really is a great start. But for a real life changing health improvement a health coach will delve deeply into your whole life and dig out areas where your health or approach to it is less than ideal.
I’ll give you an example, say I meet a lady in the street who ask me this question, on first look this person is looking fine and may only be showing signs of a little tiredness perhaps.
What does not show is that this lady is struggling with an unfulfilling career, is unhappy with her financial situation because of it and is regular thinking about this difficult situation and suffering with anxiety because of it. She may also be sleeping badly or suffering with insomnia. This then might lead her to have an unhealthy snacking or binge eating habit.
Because she is tired and unhappy she may have no motivation for anything, is never exercising and the spiral of this situation is constantly going around and around. Add to this excess use of alcohol and you can see a pattern emerging that might be hard to turn around.
It really won’t be helped with a 2 minute conversation in the street.
We have to look at our health and lifestyle in more detail and track back to what causes us to follow unhealthy routes or perhaps not care for ourselves the way we really should.
